Some of our readers may have noticed more "no vacancy" signs lit up at our local hotels than usual this past weekend, or maybe the line at your favorite restaurant and gas station was a little longer or perhaps it took you a little longer to check out at the grocery store. It was most likely due to the fact that over seven hundred athletes and their families, along with hundreds of spectators, converged in Chatsworth at Lazy River Motocross Ranch for a round of the Loretta Lynn Southeast Area Qualifiers, which is the one of the regions represented in the Loretta Lynn AMA National Motocross Championship that almost all amateur motocross racers around the country dream of participating in every year.
Several thousand riders across the United States attend qualifiers where the fifty states are divided into seven regions and Lazy River falls into the Southeast region. In each of the seven regions there are a maximum of eight Area Qualifiers. Riders must attend an Area Qualifier and finish in an advancement position to guarantee a spot into the Regional Championships. Winners from the Regional competition are given the prestigious opportunity to line up on the starting line at the Loretta Lynn National Championship which begins August 2nd.
Almost every state in the country was represented at Lazy River Motocross Ranch in addition to several attendees who were visiting our area from outside the United States including Canada, Mexico, New Zealand and Venezuela. Racers from as far away as Wisconsin, Washington and Colorado represented the United States. Several hundred spectators were also in attendance for the three-day event which began on Friday and wrapped up Sunday afternoon. Lazy River's next event will be September 26th which will be a round of one of the largest motocross series in the eastern United States. The Southern All Stars Tour will be hosted at the Chatsworth track.
